چکیده

26 The urinary microbiome of healthy individuals and the way it alters with ageing have not 27 been characterised and may influence disease processes. Conventional microbiological 28 methods have limited scope to capture the full spectrum of urinary bacterial species. We 29 studied the urinary microbiota from a population of healthy individuals, ranging from 26 to 30 90 years of age, by amplification of the 16S rRNA gene, with resulting amplicons analysed 31 by 454 pyrosequencing. Mid-stream urine was collected by the ‘clean-catch’ method. 32 Quantitative PCR of 16S rRNA genes in urine samples, allowed relative enumeration of the 33 bacterial loads. Analysis of the samples indicates that females had a more heterogeneous mix 34 of bacterial genera compared to the male samples and generally had representative members 35 of the phyla Actinobacteria and Bacteroidetes. Analysis of the data leads us to conclude that 36 a ‘core’ urinary microbiome could potentially exist, when samples are grouped by age with 37 fluctuation in abundance between age groups. The study also revealed age-specific genera 38 Jonquetella, Parvimonas, Proteiniphilum and Saccharofermentans. In conclusion, 39 conventional microbiological methods are inadequate to fully identify around two-thirds of 40 the bacteria identified in this study. Whilst this proof-of-principle study has limitations due to 41 the sample size, the discoveries evident in this sample data are strongly suggestive that a 42 larger study on the urinary microbiome should be encouraged and that the identification of 43 specific genera at particular ages may be relevant to pathogenesis of clinical conditions. 44

Assessment of asymptomatic microscopic hematuria in adults.

Although routine screening for bladder cancer is not recommended, microscopic hematuria is often incidentally discovered by primary care physicians. The American Urological Association has published an updated guideline for the management of asymptomatic microscopic hematuria, which is defined as the presence of three or more red blood cells per high-power field visible in a properly collected ...

Epigenetic Modifications of Host Genes Induced by Bacterial Infection

Introduction: Epigenetic mechanisms regulate expression of the genome to generate various cell types during development or coordinate cellular responses to external stimulus. While epigenetics is of fundamental importance in eukaryotes, it plays a different role in bacteria. This article uncovers the most important recent data on how bacteria can alter epigenetic marks and can also contribute t...

Epidemiology, Transmission, Clinical Features, Diagnosis, Treatment, and Prevention of COVID19: An Updated Review

Introduction: The novel coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19) appeared almost two years ago in China and quickly created a pandemic and affected all aspects of human life. The virus, termed SARS-CoV-2, is generally asymptomatic but contagious and might have originated from bats. Nowadays, the mechanisms underlying the infection and the incidence of SARS-CoV-2 are distinguishable from previous ...

Detection of Human Papillomavirus in Osophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma samples in Mazandaran Province, Iran

We examined 170 formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded samples from esophageal squamous cell carcinoma patients. All subjects live in Mazandaran province, a region with high incidence rate of esophageal cancer and have become known as the “Asian Esophageal Cancer Belt”. Samples were tested for HPV-DNA by MY09/11 and Gp5+/6+ general primers using nested PCR. Of the 170 ESCC samples, 86 (50.6%) were ma...

Human Herpesvirus 6 Viremia in Patients with Classic Multiple Scelerosis in Guilan, Iran

Introduction: During the past few years, an increasing body of evidence has suggested a possible role for human herpes virus 6 (HHV-6) in Multiple Sclerosis (MS) pathogenesis. Despite the many reports supporting the relationship between HHV-6 and MS, this association has not been definitely proved or refuted, and the matter remains unresolved. The current study was aimed to investigate any rela...
